The Structure of First Congregational Church

The administrative body of First Congregational Church is made up of an executive Council and several Church Boards all of which consist of elected members and friends of First Congregational Church. The descriptions of these groups and their makeup is as follows:

Council
Council is comprised of the chairs of each of the Boards, three members-at-large, the moderator, two associate moderators and the pastor. Council provides overall coordination and management of the church. Specific issues such as the budget will be taken to a Congregational Meeting as the congregation, as a whole, remains the final decision making body.

Deacons
The Board of Deacons consists of 12 members who serve 3-year terms (4 are newly elected each year). They assist in leading worship; Organize inreach efforts to parishioners; Plan special programs such as the Lenten Series; and enhance the spiritual life of the church.

Trustees
The Board of Trustees consists of 12 members who serve 3-year terms (4 are newly elected each year). They monitor the budget which the congregation approves at its Annual Meeting; oversee the building and grounds; and provide administrative oversight for the Mayflower Learning Center.

Ministry Teams
We are currently moving much of our day-to-day service to ministry teams where members and friends commit to a year working in a area of their interest that will reduce membership on some boards and eliminate others.
